Do not let the devil rejoice two times

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

The following comes from Evagrius Ponticus, 4th century Desert Father; friend of
Gregory of Nazianzus and Nyssa, and disciple of Macarius the Great. (not the exact phrase but close)

‘Do not let the devil rejoice two times. When evils happen, the devil rejoices. But when the evils continue to hold you, mesmerizing you and causing your mind to become fixed upon them, then they continue to destroy. And this is why forgiveness is important. Forgiveness is important so that you free yourself from the poison that your own hatred and anger is causing you.’
