A Life Pleasing to God

Friday, August 14, 2009

Paul instructs us in I Thessalonians of many things but I would like to look at his instructions on a life pleasing to God. In chapter 4 and 5 he provides the following list on "how you ought to walk and please God" <as an aside, he is encouraged by the Thessalonian church's walk but wants to encourage them to excel even more>. And why does he want to encourage them, "for this is the will of God, your sanctification." So doing these things pleases God because His child is being sanctified and that is God's will for His children.

  • you abstain from sexual immorality
  • control his own body
  • no one transgress and wrong his brother
  • do not be impure
  • be holy
  • love one another
  • aspire to live quietly
  • to mind your own affairs
  • work with your hands
  • respect those who labor among  you and are over you
  • be at peace among yourselves
  • admonish the idle
  • encourage the fainthearted
  • help the weak
  • be patient
  • do not repay anyone evil for evil
  • always seek to do good to one another and to everyone
  • rejoice always
  • pray without ceasing
  • give thanks in all circumstances
  • do not quench the Spirit
  • do not despise prophecies
  • hold fast to what is good
  • abstain from every form of evil
