The Lord’s Supper

Monday, January 5, 2009

Last night we had Communion during our evening service. These are always special times as they have always been a time which is never rushed. Generally the service lasts for about 2hours to 2.5 hours and one time had gone about 3 -3.5 hours. It is a sweet time with wonderful music being offered during the entire service. The Lord allowed the below song to be playing on my drive to church that morning and I repeated it throughout each drive to church, back home then back again for the evening Communion service then back home again. Listen to the words carefully. The original song writer is Andrew Peterson but could not find one of him singing it and these folks were the best that I found out there. The song is titled, “Passover Us”. Listen to the words.

Well, we all remember Moses on the banks of the river
He said “Pharaoh, you’ve got to let my people go.
You don’t want me to have to tell you this ten times over–
Denial ain’t just a river, you know”

And we all remember Pharaoh, he just wouldn’t do it
So the plagues they came upon Egypt one by one
His heart was hard and the other nine just couldn’t move it
So the last was the worst: the death of the firstborn son

But the Lord, he gave to Moses a word for the people
He said their firstborn sons could live to see another day
“Put the blood of a lamb on the doorway and death will pass right over”
That night all of the children of Israel prayed,

“Lord, let your judgment passover us
Lord, let your love hover near
Don’t let your sweet mercy passover us
Let this blood cover over us here”

So the years went by and the people they whined and they wandered
And only sacrifice atoned for the sins of the land
So you see the priest he placed upon the holy altar
The body of a spotless lamb
And he prayed,

Chorus

Also during the evening service, following the preaching of the Word, and just prior to the pastor fencing the Lord’s Table for Communion, we sang this song (O To See the Dawn) as a congregation. It is a Getty song. Their YouTube site is here. Here is a link for another Getty rendition of O To See the Dawn without the additional choir in the back ground.

“The Power of the Cross”
Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend

Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

CHORUS:
This, the pow’r of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath—
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Ev’ry bitter thought,
Ev’ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

Now the daylight flees;
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
“Finished!” the vict’ry cry.

Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death;
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

FINAL CHORUS:
This, the pow’r of the cross:
Son of God—slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.
